Los Angeles Street Renamed "Obama Boulevard" In Honor Of Barack Obama
CNN reports indicate Barack Obama was honored by the city of Los Angeles recently. According to the news outlet, a precise gesture was set forth to honor the country’s first African American president. A street once named Rodeo Road, at a length of approximately four miles, was renamed to “Obama Boulevard” in honor of the former US president. The street’s location is placed right across the well-known Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard for a reason. Furthermore, the street was previously where Barack Obama positioned his first campaign rally back in February 2007.
A tweet shared by the City Council President, Herb Wesson, stated in reference to the new street: “For every child who will drive down this street and see the name of the first Black President of our country, this boulevard will serve as a physical reminder that no goal is out of reach and that no dream is too big.” The motion to rename the street was introduced back in 2017 by Wesson and has since been approved.
Moreover, the district from which Rodeo Road belongs is known to cross through a historic Black neighborhood and also hosts other streets named in honor of former presidents such as Washington Boulevard, Jefferson Boulevard, and Adams Boulevard.
