Derek Fisher Lands New Head Coaching Gig

Five-time NBA champion and former head coach of the New York Knicks, Derek Fisher, has discovered a brand new head teaching place with the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Fisher will formally be launched at a press convention on Friday afternoon in Los Angeles.

"I am excited to be the brand new head coach of the LA Sparks," Fisher stated in an announcement, per ESPN. "There isn't any finer group within the WNBA and I am unable to wait to work with our possession group, entrance workplace, gifted gamers and workers to cement a tradition of sustained excellence, which is what LA basketball followers demand -- and deserve."

The Sparks, led by two-time WNBA MVP Candace Parker, went 19-15 within the 2018 season and misplaced to the Washington Mystics within the second spherical of the playoffs.

Fisher, 44, has not coached at any stage for the reason that 2015-16 NBA season. He went 17-65 in his first 12 months as head coach of the Knicks and was fired the next season after the staff's 23-31 file. He replaces Brian Agler, who resigned final month after 4 seasons as head coach of the Sparks, together with a WNBA Championship in 2016.
